About us

Hello and welcome!

You’ve found more than a stuffed animal. You’ve found a community. This is our story.

It started with a simple idea: make classic toys by hand that inspire joy.

I’d moved to Turkey from USA. Far from home, I’d recently become a mother and was struggling to find simple, huggable dolls for my kids. The ones I could get were created with little care for their impact on the world or the people who made them.

I was lucky enough to meet a group of talented crocheters in the outskirts of Istanbul, all mothers. I designed our first line of ten dolls and we filled a studio with laughter and cheer. Day after day, we told each other stories while crocheting and watching over our children. HMDolls was born.

We welcomed refugees from Syria, Iran and Afghanistan, new to Istanbul and mothers and daughters all, with dignified work to support their families. Everyone received a fair trade wage and the freedom to create their own schedules.

As our company grew, we found organic, sustainably manufactured yarn soft enough for sensitive newborn skin and hypoallergenic filling made from recycled water bottles, so that we could leave a better world for the next generation. We created new characters and designs so that each child could have something that spoke to their own unique experience.

And pretty soon, we were shipping our dolls around the world!

We hope that you and your young ones enjoy our toys as much as we enjoy making them. Thank you for being a member of the HMDolls family.

Warmly,

AE

The company

Where are bebemoss stuffed animals made?

All our toys are handmade by our Social Enterprise partner in Turkey by a group of women artisan.

Do all proceeds go to the Mothers?

The revenue of our sales is used to pay the Mothers and to cover the costs of running a business; profits are invested to grow the company and distributed among owners and workers equally as HMDolls is not a charity! We are a social business. Our for-profit company is a conscious company with a soul and a mission where giving back is at its core. We believe in the power of business to help make the world a better place. Our mission is to help disadvantaged populations and more precisely mothers in Turkey. We employ refugee women as well as local ones. This is very important as growing the company means employing more and more mothers…

The toys

What are the toys made of?

Each toy is crocheted with premium 100% organic (GOTS certified) cotton yarn that has been safety tested. They are stuffed to the ideal hugging weight with hypoallergenic polyester filling.

Are the animals' machine washable?

Yes, the toys can be machine washed on the gentle cycle, but we recommend you hand-wash your Drmv animal and lay it flat to dry to help preserve the animal’s shape and details. See the care guide.

Are those toys safe for my baby?

Yes, each toy is made accordingly safety requirements for newborn and children’s toys. We are also testing them by a certified third-party lab. The yarn, the stuffing and the eyes used in making each toy have been additionally tested to be safe and non-toxic.

What is the appropriate age for these animals?

Our toys are designed and safety tested for newborns and up

Can my child choke on an animal?

Each toy is third-party tested to be safe for young children. We’ve ensured that all aspects of the toy are securely attached so as not to provide a choking hazard. However, we do recommend that young children always be supervised when playing with all toys, and never place stuffed animals in a crib with a sleeping infant.
